How long will it take to franchise my business?
While the answer to this may sound like a bit of a cop out, we promise it isn’t! However, the answer really is ‘it depends’.
When franchising a business it is important to get it right first time and this includes getting the set-up right. This includes setting the model up and implementing all the relevant documentation. A big factor in how long this takes depends on the resource available in the business.
There are many things to consider, but these are the important ones:
- Preparation / Feasibility Phase
Timeline: Typically this is 2 to 3 months, but maybe even up to a year, depending on the complexity and readiness of the business. - The Legal Documents
Timeline: About 2 to 3 months, including legal review and revisions. - Franchise Operations Manual
Timeline: 1 to 2 months, depending on the comprehensiveness of the manual. - Marketing and Launch
Timeline: 3 to 6 months, from initial marketing efforts to opening the first franchise location.
In total therefore, anything from 3-4 months to over a year, very much dependant on the complexity of your business and whether you bring in external support to help.
